Chef Jon, a native of Laguna Beach, His culinary training began early in his father’s restaurant in Los Angeles. He spent over 15 years of culinary wonder under the tutelage of renowned European chefs, Paul Bocuse and Georges Blanc, and has gained experience in some of the world’s finest kitchens since he began his career in the late 1980’s. “Chef Jon” has a long list of honors, accolades and awards, including Chef of the Year, Best of the Best, Los Angeles Times Magazine and the highest award of distinction from the Southern California Restaurant Writer Association. “Chef Jon” has worked as an executive chef in a variety of prestigious dining establishments including The Star of the Sea, a San Diego seafood landmark, The Russian Tea Room in New York City, the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel and Montage Resort & Spa in Laguna Beach, all the while building the elements of his signature style. In 2000 “Chef Jon” satisfied the palates of serious diners in Laguna Beach by opening his own quaint restaurant and wine bar called Vertical.  "Kilohana" is a Hawaiian words that has the meaning of "not to be compared".
